Ken McGee

Formerly with the Consulting Engineering Firm of Henry von Oesen and Associates, Ken McGee founded McGee Cadd Reprographics and Printing Equipment in 1982.  With the objective of eliminating the redundant drafting in design (before cadd) Ken discovered that he could produce redundant drawing detail of previous design work using process cameras and photographic emulsions on drafting film.  Many techniques were developed eliminating office drafting hours saving significant dollars and expediting project design faster.  This was the beginning and still today McGee Cadd seeks to develop new technologies, equipment and software providing solutions to customers saving time and treasury.  40 plus years with great customers and a team second to none. The best is yet to come.
Ken is president and CEO of the corporation.

Birth Of The Company

From its founding to today, McGee Cadd’s growth has been guided by innovation, adaptability, and an unwavering commitment to service. Our timeline reflects the milestones, people, and progress that have shaped the company into what it is today.

1982: Foundation

McGee Reprographics and Drafting Supply Company was founded by Kenneth McGee in Wilmington, NC.

It operated as a full-service reprographics firm serving eastern North Carolina and South Carolina.

The company provided total project support to the A/E (Architecture/Engineering) and other design markets at a “one-stop” location.

Services included the sale and service of drafting supplies, equipment, photo reprographics, diazo, Xeroxing, large document xerography, laminating, mounting, and microfilming.

The original location was a renovated 1,300-square-foot building in downtown Wilmington.

1985–1989: Growth and Cooperation

1985: A modern facility was constructed on 17th Street in a high-visibility section of Wilmington to accommodate growth.

1987: A second full-support facility was opened in Greenville, NC, to better serve Northeastern North Carolina and gain market share.

1989: McGee Reprographics joined 4 other companies to form a business cooperative called Reprographic Dealers Association, incorporated in Washington, D.C.

This cooperative provided greater purchasing power and superior service support from suppliers.

1990–1993: Technological Expansion

1990: The company purchased a major surveying instrument and laser equipment competitor, establishing the “Laser & Survey Equipment Division”.

1990: A “CAD Division” was formed, offering computer support, AutoCAD training, laser plotting, and the sale/service of Versatec plotters.

1993: McGee Reprographics received reseller authorization for AutoDesk software products.

The Wilmington 17th Street location was doubled in size to 10,500 square feet to house the CAD Division, an AutoCAD Training Center, and the AGC Plan Room.

The company name was changed to McGee CADD Reprographics to reflect new technologies and a “design support” image rather than just a reproduction shop.

1993–1998: Regional Expansion

Wrightsville Beach: A third facility (1,200 square feet) was opened at 7224 Wrightsville Ave.

This location offered blueline printing, high-speed bond copying for bid documents up to 36×48, and color copying to serve A/E firms moving to that area.

Fayetteville: On January 27, a fourth facility (2,400 square feet) was opened at 2110 Ft. Bragg Rd.

It featured the “Reprographic Dealers Association Super Store” strategy with an open facility and bulk distribution.

Myrtle Beach: On November 16, a new corporation (McGee Cadd Reprographics Incorporated) was established in South Carolina.

A fifth location was opened at 1527 N. Kings Hwy, Myrtle Beach, SC, anchored by K-Mart in the Kings Festival Shopping Center.
